You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else.

For everyone food is essential for life, and for some people food is one of the greatest joys of their life. But for athletes it’s even more than that. Good nutrition is a tool to make the most of training and, perhaps more importantly, to optimise recovery. NB: I am not a registered nutritionist, I’m just a gal who’s done some research. Please take what I say with a pinch of salt (yay, electrolytes!) and if you’re worried about your diet talk to a pro.
Physiology is the function of a living organism. Sports physiology is the study of how sports and exercise can modify the sturcture and function of our body. Understanding the basics can accelerate your training and ensure that you approach every session with the correct purpose. Basically hack your body with science.
Biomechanics is like the love child of mechanics and biology. Okay, that’s not very clear… Essentially it is the study of the movement of living things, meaning it applies mechanical principles from physics to our biological understanding of an organism. In the case of sports biomechanics the organism is generally a human doing sports. (Note: here the word ‘generally’ is only used to cover my back in case it turns out someone has tried to study mice playing footbal or something.) Understanding biomechanics can help both improve performance and prevent injury.
Slightly less factual, slightly more fun. Basically I will rant on topics straddling the worlds of sports, mental health and more!

Ah, the million dollar question in the world of sport and fitness: how do I get better / faster / stronger? *Daft Punk begins to play.* The answer is a bit like Shrek (i.e. a bit like an onion (i.e. it has many layers)). A first and rather obvious layer is that you have to… Read more
